Jews have been coming to Dubrovnik since the early 15th century. Refugees from Spain and Portugal arrived in the in the 1490s. This synagogue was established in 1652 and has been in service since then.

An animita marks a place of untimely death, memorializing people who were taken suddenly, in some way thought unjust. The word "animita" comes from the Mapuche language and means "soul" or "spirit."

Kafue National Park, Zambia, has had poaching problems for many years. The main culprits were local farmers suffering from poor crop yields who were forced into poaching to feed their families.

The poor in Colombia have lived in hillside isolation from the beginning of settlement. Their isolation has been a major impediment for them to become part of society and the workforce.

The Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour allowed visitors to witness beautiful, water-conserving native plant gardens in the San Francisco East Bay. All of the homes have native plant gardens.

Cheetahs are known for their astonishing speed and agility. They have lightweight frames and long legs that help them accelerate and catch prey during their daytime hunts. Other predators often steal cheetahs' prey because they are too slight for fighting; plus lions, hyenas and wild dogs are attracted by cheetah chases in open spaces.

Cheetahs eat fast - as soon as they make a kill.

Chichén Itzá is an ancient Mayan city that is home to some of the most impressive ruins in the Americas, including the Kukulkan Pyramid, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Great Ball Court. I worked here here in 2005 and 2007 collecting photographic spherical panoramas to help plan an animated film about Maya astronomy.
