Vizcaya Bridge, 2023
The Vizcaya Bridge is a transporter bridge that transports people and vehicles by means of a gondola suspended from cables. The Vizcaya Bridge is the oldest transporter bridge in the world, and it was designed by Alberto de Palacio in 1893.
The bridge consists of two 61-meter-tall towers that are connected by an upper crossbeam. The gondola hangs from the crossbeam by 70 suspension cables. The gondola is powered by an engine, which moves it along the crossbeam. The gondola can carry up to six cars and several dozen passengers.
There are two walkways on the bridge, one on each side, that allow people to walk across. The walkways are 50 meters above the water, and they offer stunning views of the Nervión Estuary and the surrounding area.
