During the siege of Sarajevo in 1993, critical supplies arrived through this tunnel under the Sarajevo airport.

The Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope, was a tunnel constructed between March and June 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War against Serbia. It was built by the Bosnian Army in order to connect the city with Bosnian-held territory on the other side of the Sarajevo Airport. The UN setup a safety zone that allowed supplies to arrive outside the city, but there was no safe way for them to enter the city until this tunnel was built.
