Welcome

I've had the great fortune to be able to travel. People in our world are always revealing small views of their lives and goals, living in cities or villages. Come see some of what I've seen.

Antarctica

Aitcho Island
Aitcho Island

Steven has always been fascinated by Antarctica and the extreme conditions it brings to mind. A place on earth where humans were never meant to be. The cycle of life is striped to the bare minimum; the food chain is plain to see; the balance of give and take are fragile; every piece essential to the other.

OAT's White Wilderness offered a perfect chance to fulfill the dream. Their Antarctic program begins with a medical check-up to limit health risks in one of the most remote locales on our planet. Then there's the clothing and photography checklist to assemble: warm socks, waterproof pants, base-layers, parkas, etc.

We've always wanted to visit the Scotland but there never seemed to be a good time. Finally we decided to go with friends and visit the grand kids on a tour through the highlands.

Safari Serengeti

Serengeti

Having won a trip for two that had to be taken in 2019, Sylvia and I decided to go to Tanzania for our fortieth wedding anniversary. We loved our experience in Southern Africa and wanted to see the "endless plain" that is the Serengeti. OAT's Safari Serengeti: Tanzania Lodge & Tented Safari provided the perfect venue to celebrate.

Paris, Alps, Dolomites, Lombardy and Venice

Since we love mountains and hiking we signed up for the Northern Italy: The Alps, Dolomites & Lombardy tour offered by OAT. And since we love Paris and haven't visited Venice together, we added days before and after the tour.

Ancient Kingdoms

Gate at Wat Thom
Gate at Wat Thom

On OAT's Ancient Kingdoms: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, we were immersed in the vibrant cultures that have emerged in the wakes of lost empires. Traveling the Indochina peninsula through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, we connected with locals who shared their homes, markets, and schools with us. We slipped into daily life for A Day in the Life of a Laotian village, where we met young schoolchildren and Hmong villagers. We experienced the quiet tranquility of the early morning alms-giving ceremony with local monks.

Morocco

Call to Prayer
Call to Prayer

OAT's Morocco Sahara Odyssey Tour and extension to Chefchaouen is an adventure in cities, villages and the Sahara Desert, mixing Berber, French, and Spanish cultures in a Muslim parliamentary kingdom. We stayed in conventional hotels, riads, and a desert camp. We met a variety of people from many walks of life - students, nomads, migrants, city dwellers, artisans and more.
